Mortgage Approvals Up
4 November 2008
The number of new mortgage approvals rose in September - for the first time in 12 months. The Bank of England said that approvals in September rose to 34,000 from 32,000 August. Even so, the average number of approvals is well below levels seen earlier this year. The average number of approvals in the first half of the year was around 53,000 per month. The data confirms earlier reports from the British Bankers Association that mortgage lending had increased in September.
